About the Author
Bruce R. Munson, Professor of Engineering Mechanics at Iowa State University since 1974, received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Purdue University and his Ph.D. degree from the Aerospace A Engineering and Mechanics Department of the University of Minnesota in 1970.

From 1970 to 1974, Dr. Munson was on the mechanical engineering faculty of Duke University. From 1964 o 1966, he worked as an engineer in the jet engine fuel control department of bendix Aerospace Corporation, South Bend, Indiana.

Dr. Munson's main professional activity has been in the area of fluid mechanism education and research. He has been responsible for the development of many fluid mechanics courses for studies in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, and agricultural engineering and is the recipient of an Iowa State University Superior Engineering Teacher Award and the Iowa State University Alumni Association Faculty Citation.

He has authored and coauthored many theoretical and experimental technical papers on hydrodynamic stability, low Reynolds number flow, secondary flow, and the applications on hydrodynamic stability, low Reynolds number flow, secondary flow, and the applications of viscous incompressible flow. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and The American Physical Society.

Donald F. Young, Anson Marston Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Engineering, is a Faculty member in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Iowa State University. Dr. young received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in theoretical and applied mechanics from Iowa State, and has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in fluid mechanics for many years. In addition to being named a Distinguished Professor in the College of engineering, Dr. Young has also Received the Standard Oil Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award and the Iowa State University Alumni Association Faculty Citation. He has been engaged in fluid mechanics research for more than 35 years, with special interest in similitude and modeling and the interdisciplinary field o biomedical fluid mechanics. Dr.. Young has contributed to many technical publications and is the author or coauthor of two textbooks on applied mechanics. He is a fellow of the American society of Mechanical Engineers.

Theodore H. Okiishi, Associate Dean of Engineering and past Chair of Mechanical engineering at Iowa State university, has taught fluid mechanics courses there since 1967. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Iowa State.

Form 1965 to 1967, Dr. Okiishi served as a U.S. Army officer with duty assignments at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Lewis Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio, where he participated in rocket nozzle heat transfer research, and at the combined Intelligence Center, Saigon, Republic of south Vietnam, where he studied seasonal river flooding problems.

Professor Okiishi is active in research on turbomachinery fluid dynamics. He and his graduate students and other colleagues have written a number of journal articles based on their studies. some of these projects have involved significant collaboration with government and industrial laboratory researchers with two technical papers winning the ASME Melville Medal.

Dr. Okiishi has received several awards for teaching. He has developed undergraduate and graduate courses in classical fluid dynamics as well as the fluid dynamics of turbomachines.

He is a licensed professional engineer. His technical society activities include having been chair of the board of directors of The American society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International Gas Turbine Institute. He is a Fellow of  The American Society of (ASME) International  Gas Turbine Institute. He is a Fellow of The American society of Mechanical Engineers and the editor of the Journal of Turbomachinery.

Excellent for starters in fluid mechanics engineering.

I bought the book by mistake since I was looking for a more physical introduction to fluid mechanics. However, once I started reading, I could not stop. The book is a pleasure to read. Every concept is explained crystal clear. No single step is skipped. Almost every concept is illustrated with one or more very detailed solved examples. It is frequent in most technical books to find how the level of clarity degrades progressively as you approach the end of the book. This is not the case. Every chapter up to the very end is carefully arranged and the level is maintained.

The book requires very little physical background since every topic starts from the very begging. The huge number of topics covered and easy reading makes it ideal for undergraduate students. The accompanying CD provides a browsable e-version of the book, more problems, some advanced topics and an extensive list of videos illustrating the book material.

The book follows a full engineering and practical approach. If what you are looking for is a more theoretical work or a more strict physical approach, you will better look somewhere else.

A timeless story that is very relevant for today...

I give the author a lot of credit. It is very difficult for a person to write a book from the viewpoint of the opposite sex. The contents of the story were relatable and it was interesting to see the biblical references included. Glen Dueck writes a timeless story that is very relevant for today and speaks to the plight of many young women in our current society who choose to go their own way instead of God's way.

Heartfelt story that will make you question a lot of things about this world

I must admit to having some problems understanding the background information that the authors provided about the conflict in Swat, some of the facts in the first two parts of the book were a little jumbled up but the next parts were easier to understand.

Underneath it all, the message and feelings of the author were the same and those feelings were easy to understand and to sympathize with. I found myself wondering a lot about humanity, what makes us act like that, what makes us stand up for what is right and truly how many of us are willing to make that sacrifice.

I was an admirer of Malala before, just by watching Her speeches on YouTube but after reading this book I have that much more respect for her.

A truly illuminating book that made me google facts and people like no other and made me that much in tune with the world and the injustices that reside in him.

I chose to read ‘I Am Malala” written by Malala Yousafzai. I chose to read this book because when the event happened with Malala, I was very interested and stayed in the loop with the news and internet. I am happy I chose this book because I got to look into Malala’s life, and mind. After being shot by the Taliban, Malala’s life changed significantly. One thing that didn’t change though was her love for education. Despite the fact that that was the reason for the attack against her, Malala’s life revolves around learning and her love for school. To the world, she is a hero. To Malala, she did exactly what she needed to fight for her right to learn. If you area a lover of courage, heroism, and intelligence, I highly recommend this beautiful story.
The way that Malala wrote this book caught my attention because it was unlike anything I have read before. Nothing was hidden and everything she said was in great detail. After reading every experience she had been through, whether it was a tragedy or an accomplishment, I gained a new perspective of life. “I’m still me, Malala. The important thing is God has given me my life.” (Yousafzai 307) Those two sentences show so much meaning. After being shot, having to leave everything she has ever known, and after all the injuries this caused, she was just happy to be alive. Malala was not crying or upset, she was grateful to have survived. I believe that it is very hard to not be interested in this book. Once I began reading I could not stop turning the pages. This book will teach adults and both children to look at life a different way, and to appreciate all you have.
I could not relate to any of the experiences that Malala has been through. I am extremely grateful for that, though. Her life in Pakistan is the complete opposite of the lives we live here in America. Malala had to wake up every day wondering if she would go to sleep that night with a dead father, or an alive mother. She had to hide her education from others, in fear that she will be killed or hurt. These situations are what made Malala a strong, bold person. Her fight for education led to her gaining the respect of others, along with the support of her country and the world. I hope to one day be as strong of a person as Malala is. It is inspiring and truly amazing. Malala did not use many techniques while writing this book, but her honestly was enough to picture things. She was very descriptive and did not let hide a detail. Malala told us in her story, “As I found with my ear, no one knows how much power they have in their each and every organ until they lose one” (Yousafzai 301) As I said before, her honestly helped you imagine these situations she was faced with, while really helped understand this story,
The plot was chronological. Malala began with telling about her everyday life, and then explains how she got shot. She then explains how everything changed after, and the difference in her life that the attack made. It was easy for this book to hold my attention. In the beginning, it was somewhat boring because she didn’t share many details about her life. Once you gained a background on Malala and her life in Pakistan, it helped understand the book more. For example, Malala wrote, “I was a girl in a land where rifles are fired in celebration of a son, while daughters are hidden away behind a curtain.” (Yousafzai 27). This quote made me realize that from the start girls are treated differently where she was born, so her fight for education stood out to most. Her bravery had taught me that you should stand up for what you believe in.
Overall, Malala’s story is one that should be read by everyone- whether you agree with her views on education or not, she truly will inspire you. This book if not for a specific age group, because it can teach every person a lesson about life. Malala is an outstanding person, and people should strive to have the characteristics that she holds. It was an amazing story.

I found the book very interesting, it was incredibly factual. The book would have been better if it wouldn't stop the "action," to give you exposition on Malala's home country. In the beginning of the book it was fine, but as you got further into it the more frequent it became and this pushed the book away in my mind. I enjoyed Malala's story but i would have preferred not to receive a history lesson in every chapter. Aside from that, Malala told her life story in a way that made you feel the same way she did towards everything that happened to her. It had plenty of great descriptions and lots of imagery i enjoyed that. I sympathized with Malala completely about everything she fought for, she never gave up fighting against the Taliban and anyone who stood in her way she always fought agaisnt the world.i would recommend the book as long as you don't mind too much background information, but if you dont enjoy that kind of stuff avoid this book try a different one.

Long, Longer, Longest [of the series of seven]

This is book Three of the seven full-length satirical novels in Douglas Lindsay's series on Glaswegian barber Barney Thomson. And it does not seem a spoiler to me, to observe that when there are seven Barney Thomson novels, you know he will somehow live through the third to see the fourth. Although Thomson in truth dies more than once during the series....

In paperback, A Prayer for Barney Thomson spans four hundred pages. Take out the rhapsodic passages about Elvis Presley, and you would probably end up with a novel of the same length as the other, shorter six books [leaving aside the three novellas].

In my opinion, you need to read at least the first of the books, titled The Long Midnight of Barney Thomson, for background in order to understand Book Three. A Prayer for Barney Thomson begins where Book One was set, in Thomson's native Glasgow; it ends up at the University of St. Andrew's, a long way from home.
